Following up on that police chase in a Pontiac Aztec that happened today, what would you say is the perfect getaway car? The car must be a road legal production car and completely stock. An ideal car would be something tough, fast, and agile.

GT-R, because it does everything at least decently well, and most things superbly well.

I would say an S65 AMG. It somewhat blends in with other cars, is fast and powerful, and tough because it's a Mercedes. Just make sure you get away quickly; don't want to have to stop for gas halfway through.

I'd say that car is perfect for a chase however it has a 155MPH speed limiter so you won't get very far ahead to lose them.

Agree with AbarthGuy. What better a car to fade into the crowd. Does not need to be fast.

RS6 wagon. Very fast and, when gray or black, completely anonymous. It's practical too, it can comfortably seat you and 3-4 of other criminals and their loot.

Lancia 037 because it's fast, agile, and can handle itself off-road if need be. Oh, and it's sexy as hell. Just make sure you're not stealing something that can't fit in the passenger seat.

Is there a good getaway car? I mean if you are being closely follow either by cruisers or by helicopters in traffic your not going to be enough faster to elude prying eyes and speedy radio. your best bet is to go stealth. I.e. pick a really common car in a really common color, then wrap or plastidip it in a very showy color, and with very distinct wheel covers. Then you just remove the covers and wrap after whatever nefarious thing you did, light up up the evidence and drive calmly away.

It really depends on where you are and what you are running from. A good escape vehicle in a city is completely different than a get away vehicle on the highway or in the country.

In town I would go for something really hard to identify: generic color and looks like everything else, probably a sedan.

On the highway you will need speed. Most police cars will out pace you well into the triple digits, and in order to out run the helicopter and radio calls you need something a lot faster than most cars... probably GTR or greater.

In the country you will probably need something with suspension travel. You wouldn't want to go off road and risk breaking something/a flat, but roads out there aren't perfect. You might look for something like a Raptor or Jeep SRT8 (as much as I hate them).

Something like this is what you want, IE a sleeper. Audi's don't look as obnoxious as BMW's or Merc's now either so I'd say this is a good choice.

I also think we have to tweak the rules a bit, because even the fastest fast getaway by car isn't going to be fast enough to outrun a search chopper.

Here's my scenario; the economic downturn has slashed police budgets nationwide, and the district where you committed the bank robbery/mass murder/whatever recently had to auction off their choppers to keep the lights on (as well as cut the force by half and get rid of some of their fancier patrol cars)

The cops get one Charger SRT 8. What did you get? Along with the Carlton, I nominate This:

Kinja'd!!!

You get the AWD and nimbleness of the Impretzel + more than enough trunk space for all the cash in the bank plus a few hundred kilos of china white.

I would think perhaps something unremarkable... The temptation is to pick something like a supercar, but really you just need to go faster than a crown vic most likely... I think I'd go for an M5. Hardly distinguishable from the ubiquitous 5-series by most lay-people, but more than enough grunt to outrun a charger should your local pd have one on hand, and will go around corners...

Crown Victoria P71 is limited to 135.

I am unsure about the Ford Police Interceptor or the Charger but top speed isn't the point, superior 0-60 and off road capability should make for a fantastic getaway vehicle.

It passes the fast and nimble test, but its a rare car with a loud-as-hell paint scheme. The cops will have no trouble at all finding you in that, and eyewitnesses will be lined up around the courthouse block to convict you.

Worse still, a rare #037 Martini will end up in the hands of some local yokel who'll run it into the ground with no respect for it's extensive rally heritage, after they get it for pennies on the dollar during a police auction.

Yeah but in that case "tuning" meant just removing the speed limiter, which shouldn't be that difficult or costly.

Kinja'd!!!

It has all the charm of the 60's MKII's that the greats of the period used
also, jaguar boss himself said that a car needs three things to be good
"Grace, Pace and Space"
It's a Galant, Graceful creature
it's surely got the pace from the fire breathing Supercharged 510 horsepower plant under the hood
and space? well the L in the name does mean Long wheel base!
